Assaulted by Invisible Pollution-Water

 

 

 

Water is directly connected to our health and wellness, yet we don’t get the quality of water that we need to sustain our health. The best water on the planet comes from mountain springs. Even if you can get real mountain spring water, its delivery is most often in plastic bottles, robbing it of its ideal structure and health-giving capacities.

 

Tap water or bottled water or what?

 

Many articles in the media claim that tap water is better and more regulated than bottled water, which when in plastic can leach contaminants. This dilemma is more complicated than ever.  Many people do not like to drink tap water for good reason.  More than an objection to the taste, many people believe treated municipal water is bad for them. They aren’t far off in their thinking. Since 2004, Environments Working Group (EWG) has performed an analysis of drinking water using data from almost 20 million records obtained from state water officials.  Testing results revealed 315 pollutants in the tap water that Americans are drinking.

bulletThe federal government does have health guidelines for other contaminants, but 49 of them have been found in one place or another at levels above those guidelines, polluting the tap water for 53.6 million Americans.

In recent years, many people have chosen bottled water over tap water even though bottled water has fewer purity regulations and leaches chemicals from the plastic as it sits in hot warehouses or in transit (see the movie Tapped). Water clearly has become one of our greatest issues of the 21st century. There are no easy answers, however there are new technologies and products that can help address the problem.

Water That Meets Federal Standards is Essentially Dead

 

Water is a unique entity. It can officially be considered drinkable and yet be dead" by the criteria used to judge life and death. With a new awareness that most of our tap water  delivered by our faucets is in a dead state, the new emphasis is on how to restore water to its former alive state. Living water, found in unpolluted areas in nature, contains energy, nutrients, and an undeterminable essence that provides everything needed to sustain and maintain our living eco-systems. It is our first defense against environmental assaults that disturb our cellular homeostasis, or balance. If the water cannot penetrate our cells properly, it ends up in the interstitial tissues meaning the space between cells.  In this location, it can not do the work of cleansing our cells which results in the buildup of toxins and an increase of acidity in the body which in turn increases the risk of cancer.

 

When the size of the water clusters are small, they are more bio-available meaning that more oxygen is available, nutrients are easily carried into the cells, lactic acid is removed faster and the work of cleansing the cells of acid waste becomes more efficient. The balance of the cells can be maintained creating a better defense against the many aggressions of modern life that constantly attack our bodies.

 

Nature gives us ample free water and through our lack of awareness , we then destroy it. It is no wonder that the biggest issue of this century will be to clean and restore our most critical life supporting element from dead to living water. Today most people know we have a problem with water but don't know how to go about getting the best quality water

 

When we are born, 90% of our body is water. As we age, the percentage drops to about 75%. Like the earth, the human body contains an ocean within it. We are a complex system of circulating water that is involved in thousands of body functions. The saliva we use in digestion is mostly water. Nervous impulses are transmitted in water, your eyes move freely in a lubricant that is mostly water. Within living systems, most things happen in and with water.

According to recent news and reports, most tap and well water in the U.S. is not safe for drinking due to heavy industrial and environmental pollution. Toxic bacteria, antibiotics, hormones, chemicals and heavy metals routinely penetrate and pollute our natural water sources making people sick while exposing them to long term health consequences such as liver damage, cancer and other serious conditions. We have reached the point where most of our sources of drinking water, including municipal water systems, wells, lakes and rivers contain some level of contamination. Glaciers are no exception due to the occurrence of acid rain and global warming. Here is the bad news.   Bottled water appears to be a culprit as well.

Research done in Europe in 2006 by world expert Dr William Shotyk - who has vowed never to drink bottled water again - will be published in the Royal Society of Chemistry's journal next month. It is sure to revive concerns about the safety of bottled water, the world's fastest-growing drinks industry, worth approximately $70 billion a year. An estimated 50 billion bottles of water are consumed per annum in the US and around 200 billion bottles globally.

The tests found traces of antimony, a chemical used in the making of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles, used by most mineral-water sellers.

Small doses of antimony can make you feel ill and depressed. As you probably know, depression is one of the major illnesses afflicting people today. A good friend of mine who has suffered from depression for many years was recently tested for heavy metal toxicity.  Her levels of antimony were off the chart.  Also keep in mind that baby bottles used to be plastic and now it is common knowledge to use glass bottles instead. Larger quantities of antimony can cause violent vomiting and even death. The study stressed that amounts of antimony were well below official recommended levels. But it also discovered that the levels almost doubled when the bottles were stored for three months.

Professor Shotyk, of Heidelberg University in Germany, said: "I don't want to shock people but here's what I know: Antimony is being continuously released into bottled drinking water. The water in PET bottles is contaminated."

He tested ground water and 15 types of bottled mineral water in his native Canada. The ground water contained two parts per trillion (ppt) of antimony. Bottled water had an average 160 ppt of antimony when opened immediately after bottling. But ground water stored in a PET plastic bottle had 630 ppt of antimony when opened six months later.

Professor Shotyk then tried the experiment in Europe, collecting 48 brands of water in PET bottles and water from its source in the ground at a German bottling plant. The water had four ppt of antimony before being bottled, the contents of a new bottle had 360 ppt and one opened three months later had a staggering 700 ppt.

Antimony finds its way into water by 'leaching' from the plastic in the same way that water absorbs flavor from a teabag. Health authorities said even the higher levels of antimony found are way below official safety guidelines, set at around six parts per billion by international environment agencies.

Elizabeth Griswold, director of the Canadian Bottled Water Association, added: "The levels do not pose a risk to humans. They are simply trace elements."

But David Coggan, a Southampton University-based epidemiologist who works with the Medical Research Council, called for further research into the findings.

He said not enough was known about the effects of antimony and how much had to be consumed before it became dangerous. Last year naphthalene, which can cause liver damage in high doses, was found in two bottles of Volvic mineral water. Bacteria which could leach into bottled water has been cited as a possible reason for rising levels of food poisoning.

DRINKING WATER AND CHILDREN

F. Batmaghelidj’s states “Water is the basis of all life. The muscles that move your body are 75% water; your blood that transports nutrients is 82% water; your lungs that provide your oxygen are 90% water; your brain that is the control center of your body is 76% water; even your bones are 25% water.”

Just because children have smaller bodies does not mean they need less water.  Water is in fact one of the most important nutrients for children because their bodies are growing rapidly and their cells are quickly changing. The fact is, the smaller they are the more they need to drink. The more they need to drink good quality water that is absorbable.

Children should especially drink water after taking part in sports, such as gym class. A small degree of dehydration can lead to a reduction of mental and physical performance. Being dehydrated can lead to poor concentration in the classroom, less participation, lower mental and physical performance and lower test scores.

It takes 32 glasses of high Ph water to neutralize a glass of cola! Active girls who drink cola are five times more likely to develop osteoporosis than girls who do not drink soda.

Is your water making you age faster?

 

Water can be a powerful antioxidant and is measured in terms of ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential). ORP is sometimes referred to as "redox". Alteration of the ORP of drinking water is what causes the increase or decrease of micro-clustering, antioxidant and hydrating effects. ORP is a "potential" energy that is stored and ready to be put to work. The value of ORP quantifies the amount of energy in water by numbering electrons and is expressed in millivolts. It measures the presence of oxidizing or reducing agents by their specific electrical charge, thus Oxidation Reduction "Potential". Oxidation in simple terms is what turns an apple brown after it is cut or causes metal to rust. Rust weakens metal and signifies the deterioration of the apple.

 

High pH water has more reducing agents (-ORP) and low pH water has more oxidizing agents (+ORP). The ORP of most tap water in the USA is between +150 to +600mv making it an oxidizing agent. Chlorinated water will show a positive ORP. Most bottled waters are acidic (low pH). High water pH that is properly ionized demonstrates a –ORP making it a reducing agent and has the ability to be an amazing anti-oxidant. These factors in brief, affect the process of aging.

 

 

 

Not all Waters are Created Equal

 

The bottles themselves can cause trouble. Phthalate is a chemical used to soften plastics and make it less brittle. But when heated, even from a hot day in the car, they begin to leach into the contents of the bottle. Phthalates can cause reproductive difficulties, liver problems and increased risk of cancer . While phthalates are regulated in tap water, the FDA maintains an exemption for bottled water.

Normal drinking water—such as that from the tap or bottle—isn’t pH balanced and often contains a wide range of contaminants. These may include:
