What is UV or ultraviolet light?
Ultraviolet light is part of the spectrum of electromagnetic energy generated by the sun. The full spectrum includes, in order of increasing energy, radio waves, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, x-rays, gamma rays and cosmic rays. Since UV is not visible, it is technically not “light”, but we acknowledge its presence by analyzing the wavelength of light given off by various sources.

Is UV harmful?
We are all exposed to the UV in sunlight. It can be harmful based on the type of UV and duration of exposure. Spending an hour at the earth’s equator is different than that same exposure near the North Pole. The Zuvo Purator uses shortwave UV (200-280nm) for germicidal disinfection. The tinted tube on our product protects you from any harmful exposure just like the tinted windows in your car.

How often should I change my filter cartridges?
The frequency of filter changes depends upon your water quality and your water usage. Monitor your water usage if possible. It can change seasonally. If you start to see degradation in water flow from your Zuvo Purator or experience an unusual taste, change the filter. Otherwise, change your filter at approximately the 500 gallon point, or 6 months, whichever is sooner.

Why do filters plug up?
Our carbon filters are designed to remove contaminants and particles from your water. We believe that ozonation helps our filters to last longer, but, eventually, they will clog as particles and contaminants are being captured. Plugging actually indicates that your filters are working efficiently.

How do I remove used cartridges and install new ones?
Complete instructions for removing cartridges are included in the box with your new Zuvo Purator. They can also be found on the Product section on our website.

Why do cartridges have to be flushed when first installed?
All carbon-based filters need to be flushed to remove any excess carbon fines that are inside the cartridges. New cartridges are filled with air; therefore, flushing also removes the air from inside the cartridges and replaces it with water. The flushing process will allow any carbon-based cartridge to function at optimum levels without affecting any equipment that may be attached.

What do I do if the water is flowing at a very slow rate?
Ensure that the inlet/outlet tubes are not kinked. Ensure that the diverter screen is not plugged by removing and inspecting it for debris.

What does it mean if the UV lamp does not light when the unit is “on”?
Our UV lamp has a 10,000 on/off cycle life span, so verify that there is power to receptacle where the unit is plugged in. Verify that minimum inlet pressure, 20 psi, is met. If need be contact Zuvo Customer Service or order a new UV lamp.

What if there are no bubbles visible when the unit is “on”?
Typically this means that your carbon filter is exhausted or the inlet tubing is kinked.

What if the unit leaks around the top after the filter has been replaced?
Check the O-Ring on top to make sure it is properly seated. The the O-ring is the blue rubber seal at the top of the carbon filter insert.

Who do I call for local installation or service?
Zuvo recommends that you contact a licensed plumber in your area for assistance with installing your Zuvo Water Purator.
